Before the much awaited announcement of the 2016 AP Exam results on July, let’s take a look on our students’ success in the AP Program this #ThrowbackThursday.
AP or Advance Placement courses are rigorous, college-level subjects offered to senior high school students. Every May, thousands of students all over the world take AP examinations in 37 different subject areas and prove that they are college ready by getting a score of at least 3 in a 5-point marking scale. Students who successfully acquire satisfactory AP course credits and AP exam score results have a great advantage to those who don’t; they stand out in college admissions and get university credits for the AP subjects they have taken.
Since 2009, MIT International School has been authorized by the College Board (US) to offer AP courses to its Grades 11 and 12 students. Over the years, MITIS AP students have brought pride to the school community by getting subject test average marks well and above the world’s average. For example, AP Calculus AB students achieved 100% passing rate during the May 2014 examinations with an average score of 4.44 outperforming the world average of 2.94. The performance of MITIS learners in other subject tests are shown in the graphic below.
Aside from this, a number of Grades 11 and 12 students of the school bagged AP Scholar awards from the College Board. In May 2015, two AP International Diploma awards were given to MITIS students by obtaining passing scores in more than 5 multi-disciplinary subject tests. The complete list of citations received by our students are shown in the graphic below. For full details regarding the AP Scholar Awards, please visit the webpage in this link.
Finally, our graduates who were successful in the schools’ AP Program are now proud students of some of the world’s best universities. In fact, some of them were awarded scholarships due to their remarkable academic performance as shown by the number of AP subjects they took and exams they passed.
To date, MIT International School offers 15 AP subjects in different disciplines and has been granted the privilege of administering the AP exams every May to MITIS and non-MITIS test takers.
