MIT International School continues to uphold its integrity in giving quality education to students. We are committed in finding innovative ways in bringing experiential learning at its best. As we engage in online delivery, the Science and Technology Department along with the collaborative efforts of the school administration would like to present to you our newest addition to support and strengthen our STEM program—Labster Virtual Laboratory. Standing firm with their statement, “Empowering the next generation of scientists to change the world with engaging lab simulations.”
Labster is a next-generation laboratory simulator accessible through an interactive platform, where students engage with life science, biology and biotechnology experiments. Designed with 3D animations and packed with educational science background information, Labster’s browser- and tablet-based wet lab is the heart of the virtual application. Labster simulates a fully equipped laboratory that students are rarely able to access in real life. It gives students the possibility to work with virtual, realistic lab experiments which would otherwise be time-consuming or unsafe to perform in a school wet lab. Simultaneously, Labster bridges learning through its online availability while increasing student learning and grade performance.
Labster is dedicated to developing fully interactive advanced lab simulations based on mathematical algorithms that support open-ended investigations. We combine these with gamification elements such as an immersive 3D universe, storytelling and a scoring system which stimulates students’ natural curiosity and highlights the connection between science and the real world. The labs are being used by California State University, Harvard, Gwinnett Technical College, MIT, Exeter University, University of New Haven, Stanford, University of New England, Trinity College, University of Hong Kong and Berkeley among others internationally.
We firmly believe MIT International School in partnership with Labster Virtual Laboratory will help create not only Smart and Good students but also foster genuine interest in Science and Technology as we continue to be stewards of STRIPES.
