The MITIS Student Coordinating Board embarked on a journey to Villa Maria, Rosario, Batangas last September 15-16 for their annual Team Building and Leadership Training. Together with Ms. Mae Malanum, their adviser, this Tony Lee-led group of eleven aimed to accomplish three things over the weekend: Knowing Oneself, Building the Team, and Empowering the Team.
In Knowing Oneself, the student-leaders learned to look into themselves in terms of their core values. This activity taught them that it is important for individuals to always see their positive side. The affirmations they received from their fears bolstered their self-esteem and encouraged them to be more confident and outspoken.
The next phase, Building the Team, saw the big team being split into two—Team Tony and Team Charles. Various games that tested the team’s creativity, quick-wittedness, competitiveness, and strategy were facilitated by Mr. Ricmond Calunsag and Ms. Anna Medina. At this stage, the leadership of the youngest members of the organization was also tested and showcased, proving that even the youngest ones can make the largest difference. After sharing insights, Tony Lee, SCB President, talked about how competition may motivate but it is cooperation that can make things happen. He also stressed the importance of being optimistic in spite of whatever challenge is to come.
With bonds created and stories shared during free time, the teams proceeded to the most vital part of this trip: Empowering the Team. In this phase, the SCB started to lay out plans and visualize goals to make sure this school year is as meaningful and joyful as ever. The team ended up with a 7-Point Agenda for the year: Respect, Trust, Self-esteem, Unity, Connectedness, Creativity, and Joy.
Now, more than ever, the SCB is ready to serve its community—the MITISzens.
