SCB Team Building and Oath-taking: A Story of Zeal, Passion, and Dedication

“I stand before all of you as I, alongside these seven other passionate student-leaders, formally accept the challenge and the responsibility bestowed upon me.” – Charles Denver M. Opague during his oath-taking ceremony as the incoming SCB President.

It’s that time of year again when the new Student Coordinating Board (SCB) members are introduced and formally inducted to their respective offices as they prepare for the new school year and the events that come with it.

The SCB members’ assumption of their roles and responsibilities commenced during their Annual Team Building and Planning held last September 10-11 in Los Baños, Laguna. In the team building, they were able to bond with each other and fully become a strong, functional group of student-leaders. By doing so, they were able to outline their goals in a 5-hour planning session, as well as redefine the nature of the SCB. They all thought of new events they could organise, as well as some past programs and events they could reimplement and reinvent for school year 2018-2019. By the end of the activity, they all had their own special tasks to fulfil and a newly replenished drive to do so.
After this, the six core officers-elect and two selected committee heads finally took their oath of office during the September 17 morning assembly. The endowment of the Sash of Responsibility and Oath-taking Ceremonies were facilitated by their SCB adviser, Mr. Richmond Calunsag, Teacher-Leader for Student Affairs, Mr. Jose Maria Victor Manuel, and Teacher-Leader for School Operations, Ms. Maria Ana Yanez. During this affair, Charles Denver Opague, the President, delivered a speech discussing SCB’s future plans and pledged how the organization will be true to its promise of instilling its annual goal of “learning with zeal, loving with passion, and leading with dedication” to their fellow MITISzens. Moreover, a new SCB logo is revealed to exhibit how the organization can fulfill its mission through camaraderie, relevance, and connection. Some of their projects include the Smart and Good merchandise Store (S&G-S), Student Assembly, and an ongoing constitutional convention to revise the SCB constitution. As Mr. Opague shared, “The year has only started, but we all can’t wait to roll out all the plans we have for the betterment of everyone’s experience in the school. Together, let us live to learn with zeal, love with passion, and lead with dedication. We are the SCB, and we are ready to be of a service to all of you.”
