MITIS high school students receive AP Scholar Awards and acquire admissions to top local and international universities

Six Grades 11 and 12 students were awarded AP Scholar Awards while a number of Batch 2019 graduates received admissions from top-performing universities, which affirms the school’s commitment in providing a challenging and supportive learning environment that endeavors student success.

Maria Ana Katrina P. Naval was bestowed with an AP Scholar Award with Distinction for receiving commendable AP exam results in English Language, English Literature, Calculus AB, Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1, Psychology, and World History. She achieved such commendable feat despite being very busy with her other endeavors such as her membership in the Student Coordinating Board (SCB) as Vice President and her active involvement in theater and outreach programs outside school. In fact, she was one of the main cast members of the musical play Pers Lab: Mga Kwentong Hotdog staged at the Insular Life Alabang. The show will be having a re-run this coming August 3 at the same venue. Nina’s dedication towards her studies and active school life allowed her to acquire admissions to New York University, ranked 39th by QS World University Rankings, and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She will soon fly to NYU to take a degree in drama.

Meanwhile, three students received AP Scholar Award with Honor: Charles Denver M. Opague, Joel Andrei C. Ramirez, and Iona Violeta A. Gibbs.

Charles, the batch’s valedictorian and SCB President, took AP exams in English Language, Calculus AB, Chemistry, Physics 1, and Psychology. His strong academic performance helped him get admissions to the top 4 universities in the Philippines: University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, and University of Santo Tomas. He even passed the prestigious DOST scholarship examinations. Even before he enters Ateneo as a chemical engineering freshman, Charles is currently attending the Asia Union Leaders Summit 2019 in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

On the other hand, Joel passed his AP exams in English Language, English Literature, Chemistry, and Psychology. He achieved this while serving SCB as its Treasurer and working in his interest club dedicated to improve its members’ skills in media. He finished his senior year in MITIS acquiring admissions to the University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, and DLS – College of Saint Benilde. He will pursue his dream career in the field of film in UP.

Iona of Grade 11 successfully took AP exams in English Language, English Literature, Physics 1, Psychology, and World History. As she enters Grade 12, Iona plans to apply to universities with competitive pre-law programs.

Lastly, Myra Joanna C. Arce and Maria Sophia T. Alipit garnered the AP Scholar Awards.

Myra, after her successful leadership of the school’s Creative Social Outreach (CSO) program and stewardship as director of a school play, achieved success in her AP exams in English Language, English Literature, and Psychology. She received admissions to University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, and Ehwa Womens University in South Korea. She will find her luck as she pursues a career in political science by taking a straight program in Ateneo under full scholarship.

Grade 11’s Sophia took AP exams in English Language, English Literature, Biology, Physics 1, Psychology, and World History. She is currently preparing to get admissions to universities that offer pre-medicine programs.

Aside from them, other Batch 2019 graduates performed well in their college admissions. Rodalyn A. Gasid will enter the University of the Philippines as an electrical engineering freshman while Nikki Floranne V. Castolo is studying Science Education at the Philippine Normal University-Manila. Both Roda and Nikki enjoy scholarship grants from the DOST. Lastly, Patrisha Jane P. Gan and Meann B. Plotteck will further their studies in Far Eastern University and De La Salle Health Sciences Institute, respectively.
