CSO conducts Tree Planting activity in its Be the Change: Grow Green Program

CSO’s last event this school year was the Tree Planting activity held last April 13, 2019 in Laguna Quezon Land Grant, Siniloan, Laguna in partnership with Fostering Education & Environment for Development (FEED), Inc. Students from different grade levels participated along with their families in planting tree saplings in an effort to raise environmental protection awareness and help restore the Philippine forests.

Upon arriving at the site, MITISzens were given a presentation where the foresters talked about their organization’s history and provided the students with information about the importance of tree planting. Right after that, they were escorted to the Forest Fitness Trail which lead to the planting site.

The MITISzens were taught how to plant the saplings in a way that ensures its survival. They were also told of a way to track their trees’ growth.  Each MITISzen has to plant 5 trees native to the area. They planted malaruhat, bani, kalumpit, white lauan, and lipote.  In total, the attendees were able to plant about 100 saplings.

The success of the event inspired the entire community to be committed in the global campaign for a more sustainable planet for the future generations. As such, the school plans to make its partnership with FEED, Inc. stronger and to include tree planting an institutional activity in the years to come.
